Parquet Flooring: A Historical Look
Michalis 'BIG Mike' Kotzakolios

Parquet flooring has been used for many years, and is often thought of as “old” flooring. While this may be true, there are still many people every year that turn to parquet in order to decorate their homes.

If you are looking to get parquet flooring in your home, you should first know that there are three different classes that you can choose from. They are as follows:

1. Solid parquet. Just like the name says, this is a solid form of the wood. If you buy a solid parquet flooring, it is very thick, which will allow you to sand it down many times over during the life of the floor.

2. Veneer parquet. This is a simple technique that has been used in the flooring industry for many years. This involves parquet flooring being attached to a cheaper wood. This helps to keep the cost down because you are not dealing with the thickness that you are with solid parquet. You can still sand this down numerous times during the life of the floor.

3. Laminate parquet. Again, this is a way to keep prices down, and consists of a fake parquet wood image being fixed to a very cheap base such as plywood or a particle board. This technique is the cheapest of the three, but will also become chipped and dinged as time goes by.

Parquet comes in a variety of different shades and textures. It is up to you to do the appropriate amount of research in order to find out which one will best suit your needs.

Parquet flooring can offer a great look to any room in your home. It can be had in three different varieties to suit your pricing needs. Do not overlook this option; it is at least worth checking out in person.
